2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2024 Maltese Native Species Maltese honey bee – Issued in 2024, this €2 commemorative coin belongs to the “Indigenous Species” series and places the Maltese honey bee, Apis Mellifera Ruttneri, at the centre of its design. The European Central Bank identifies it as an endemic species of the Maltese islands. The coin therefore draws attention to a distinctive part of Malta’s natural heritage and to the bee’s ecological role: it pollinates flowers and produces honey. The image shows the bee beside a blossom against a broad honeycomb pattern. “MALTA” and “2024” frame the scene, while twelve stars decorate the outer ring.
