2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2025 Maltese Walled Cities 2025 – Mdina: Issued in June 2025, this €2 commemorative coin is dedicated to the walled city of Mdina and forms the second release in Malta’s series on fortified cities, following Iċ-Ċittadella on Gozo in 2024. Perched on a hill in the centre of the island, Mdina served as Malta’s administrative and political capital for almost two millennia. Archaeological evidence traces its history back to the Bronze Age, while Phoenician settlement and later Roman rule shaped its development; in Roman times it was known as Melite. The design presents Mdina’s fortifications dominated by its cathedral, with “MDINA”, “MALTA” and “2025” inscribed around the image.
