2 Euro Commemorative Coin Greece 2025 200th Anniversary of the death of Laskarina Bouboulina Issued in 2025, Greece’s €2 commemorative coin marks the 200th anniversary of the death of Laskarina Bouboulina (1771–1825), a major figure of the Greek War of Independence. Raised on Spetses, the twice-widowed shipowner built substantial influence and helped equip the corvette Agamemnon. In 1821 she raised her revolutionary flag and supported the blockades and sieges of Nafplio and Monemvasia, while also paying crews, supplying weapons, and supporting soldiers’ families. Her importance lay in joining maritime expertise, financial resources, and direct leadership at a time when public military authority was overwhelmingly male. Bouboulina was killed on Spetses on 22 May 1825 during a family dispute. The portrait and stylized rigging evoke her naval role.
