Collodi was the literary name of Carlo Lorenzini, an Italian writer and journalist whose lasting cultural legacy is The Adventures of Pinocchio. First published in book form in 1883, the story developed into one of the most internationally recognized works of children’s literature; its protagonist has since inspired translations, adaptations, exhibitions, and educational work. The coin translates that legacy into a compact visual narrative. Pinocchio appears at the center as a puppet, while his shadow looks in astonishment at the talking cricket perched on his lengthening nose—a reference to the nose growing after one of his lies. The inscriptions and dates frame this tribute to both author and character.
