2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican City 2025 550th Anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Vatican 2025 – 550th Birthday of Michelangelo honours Michelangelo Buonarroti, born in 1475 and remembered as one of the defining artists of the Italian Renaissance. His work extended across sculpture, painting, architecture and poetry, reflecting the breadth of his artistic career. Issued in 2025, the coin marks five and a half centuries since his birth. Its design brings together two major achievements associated with the Vatican. The dome of St Peter’s Basilica occupies the central position, recalling Michelangelo’s architectural concept and his supervision of the construction up to the drum; Giacomo della Porta completed the dome after Michelangelo’s death. Beneath it, a section of the Sistine Chapel ceiling refers to the monumental frescoes Michelangelo painted there. The dates 1475 and 2025 frame the commemoration.
