2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2026 Maltese Walled Cities Valletta commemorates Malta’s capital and forms the third issue in the “Maltese Walled Cities” series. The 2026 €2 commemorative coin recalls the city’s foundation after the Great Siege of 1565. The Order of St John began construction, following the laying of the foundation stone by Grand Master Jean de Valette on 28 March 1566. For more than four centuries, Valletta has served as Malta’s administrative centre and capital; in 1980, the city was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its principal design feature is a city view accompanied by the inscriptions “VALLETTA”, “MALTA” and “2026”.
