2 Euro Commemorative Coin Malta 2026 Maltese Native Species Pharaoh Hound – The 2026 €2 commemorative coin honours the Maltese Pharaoh Hound, a native breed known in Maltese as “Il-Kelb tal-Fenek.” According to the official breed standard of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, Malta is recognised as the breed’s country of origin. The dog therefore represents a distinctive part of Malta’s cultural heritage. The standard characterises it as an alert hunter that relies on both scent and sight. The coin’s principal design feature is the depiction or identification of the Pharaoh Hound itself. Maria Anna Frisone and Luc Luycx are credited as its designers, and the coin was struck at the Royal Dutch Mint.
