2 Euro Commemorative Coin Estonia 2026 Estonian children's literature Estonia’s 2026 commemorative €2 coin celebrates Sipsik, one of the most recognisable figures in the country’s children’s literature. Created by writer Eno Raud and given his distinctive appearance by illustrator Edgar Valter, the cloth doll first appeared in the children’s magazine “Täheke” in 1961. Sixty-five years later, Sipsik remains a cross-generational cultural presence, carried from magazine pages into books and films. The character’s adventures turn ordinary childhood experiences into stories about friendship, care, play and imagination, making Sipsik a symbol of both literary heritage and shared memories. The coin’s design draws on Valter’s original illustrations, while designer Ivar Sakk helped adapt the image for striking on a coin. Its commemorative idea follows Sipsik’s remarkable journey: from a magazine character to a beloved national figure and, ultimately, an officially issued means of payment throughout the euro area.
