2 Euro Commemorative Coin Luxembourg 2026 Awarding of the International Charlemagne Prize to the people of Luxembourg Issued for 2026, the coin commemorates the International Charlemagne Prize conferred on the people of Luxembourg on 8 May 1986 in Aachen. Grand Duke Jean, serving as head of state, accepted the honor on the nation’s behalf. The award cited the Luxembourgers’ exemplary perseverance in advancing European integration and their politicians’ contributions to European politics. At the center of the design appears the Charlemagne Prize medal with its pendant, depicting Emperor Charlemagne enthroned. The inscriptions “PEUPLE LUXEMBOURGEOIS,” “PRIX CHARLEMAGNE 1986,” and “2026” are included. The initials “CP” identify the designer, Chiara Principe. Twelve stars on the outer ring represent the European Union and frame the motif.
