2 Euro Commemorative Coin Ireland 2026 50 Years U2 The Irish 2-euro commemorative coin honors the 50th anniversary of the rock band U2, whose story began in Dublin in 1976. It all started when Larry Mullen Jr. posted a notice at his school looking for musicians. From the shared beginnings of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr., a band emerged that achieved international success while remaining closely tied to its Irish roots over the decades. The coin’s design depicts all four members together, deliberately placing the band as a unified whole at the center. Above the portrait appear the inscription "U2" and a reference to the 50th anniversary. The design is complemented by the name of the country, "Éire," and the year of issue, 2026. The design is by Shaughn McGrath.
