Published in 1511, the work established Erasmus as one of the defining voices of European Renaissance humanism. The design places the scholar at work opposite Queen Beatrix, bringing the Netherlands’ intellectual heritage and its contemporary monarchy into a single composition. The coin was designed by Dylan Shields.
