2 Euro Commemorative Coin Belgium 2011 100th Anniversary of International Womens Day International Women’s Day grew out of campaigns for political rights, fair working conditions and social equality. It was first observed in several European countries in 1911 and later became a global day of action. With this coin, Belgium recalls a century of organised demands for equal rights. The theme points both to historical progress and to issues that remain current: equal participation, economic independence and protection from discrimination.
